Steve Kurtz,      Lead Elder/Pastor

I was born in Reading, PA and, due to growing up with a father that was a pastor, moved several times before settling in the York area.  I attended church almost every Sunday during my childhood and early teen years although many times it seemed like I was just going through the motions, singing songs I didn't really understand with people I didn't truly know.  During my high school years, I encountered God, the Person of those hymns, in a real way.  I gave my life to Him wholly.  This launched an exciting journey that continues to unfold today. 

As a young adult twenty-something, He taught me the value of His family, the local Church, as I served as a volunteer in various ministries here at Cityview.  I met my wife, Kristy, while serving as a part of the youth ministry leadership team.  We were married in 1997 here at Cityview and she continues to be the love of my life and greatest source of joy and laughter on this planet. 

I was invited to join the elder team in 2002 and have served continuously as a part of that team ever since.  I was hired as Executive Pastor in January 2004, and served in that administrative/pastoral capacity until May 2008, when I transitioned to Lead Elder/Pastor.  My role primarily involves serving & supporting the leadership here at Cityview, as well as preaching & teaching during our weekend services.  I have grown here at Cityview over the past 20 years, and I count it a great privilege to serve in this capacity among this church family.

I am also honored to serve as a chaplain for the York City Police Department.

Kristy and I currently live in York City and have four wonderful children.  We have three daughters, Zoe (13), Mackenzie (11), and Irelyn (7).  We have one son, Judah Cash (3), who is well cared for with three older sisters looking out for him.  One lop-eared bunny, a white Dwarf Hotot rabbit, and a turtle make our family complete.

Hope for Cityview Community Church

My hope for Cityview Church is that we would be a family of men and women who know the One to whom we sing, who truly know those they sing among, and who call all people to the glory of God through the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
